Details- This
hotel is located in an Augustinian Convent dating back to the12th
Century. In 1892 the church portion of the convent was converted to a
hotel. Since then there have been several renovations and it has been
in its current form since 1984. The hotel has a wonderful location
in Aix en Provence, sitting just around the corner from the famous street Cours Mirabeau. You can easily walk to all the main sights
and restaurants in Aix en Provence from here. The lobby of the hotel
is spectacular, revealing the marvels of this historic building including
large stone arches, dark wood furniture and stained glass windows. The
29 rooms are small (typical for a large town
or city in France). We felt that the rooms were too
"cookie cutter" or generic for us to give the hotel a very high
rating. There are several categories of rooms. The upper end
rooms have more space and charm, but none match the promise of the public
spaces.
Notes- If you are looking for a clean room with the basic amenities such as TV with English channels and a minibar on a budget, then this is a fine option. The rooms are air conditioned which is very important for hot summer nights in Aix en Provence. The hotel offers WiFi internet access.
