Details- Daniel
and Catherine have lovingly restored and added on to this old factory in
the former tanning district of Andlau. Their style is modern and
accented heavily with touches of whimsy. Fourteen theme rooms like Jazzy,
Zen, and Pop can act as a counterpoint to the cute half
timbered story book village setting, and might even invigorate your
dreams. The best part of a stay, however, is the local mystic lore
recounted to you with obvious delight by Daniel. He will patiently
explain the history of the area including the ancient pagan artifacts that
were incorporated into the local church (ask about the She-Bear fertility
statue). Andlau is perched on either side of a small river that
cascades out of the mountains and is a perfect, only slightly removed,
base for a visit to this lovely area on the ancient Wine Route.
Notes-
This
is not Old World charm, but modern, if a bit funky style in an Old World
setting. Daniel is a treasure trove of local information on history,
food, wine and more! Take time to discover some of all he'll gladly
share.
Quotes-
"This hotel is like a boutique hotel located somewhere between
Alsace and Hollywood." Roger Tinsman,
March 2002.
