Details- This hotel is located within the old city of Carcassone.  This is the best preserved (technically restored) Medieval city in all of Europe and a definite must-see!  We love this destination, even if we are not entirely thrilled with this hotel because it is associated with a chain, and we feel that taints some of its charm.  The lobby has a period feel with tapestries, art, tile floors, beautiful fabric on the chairs and wood beamed ceilings, but then you find international newspapers readily available upon check in.  Call us snobs, but we travel to France to experience France, not read American newspapers!  The breakfast room and bar offer sophisticated charm with stone walls, wood beam ceilings and medieval chandeliers. This is a fine option because you stay inside the old city, just expect the charm to be the city itself and not your room.

Notes- Some of the rooms have quite unique features such as wood doors set into stone walls that are two feet thick, but then again you have chain amenities like a coffee maker in the room that to us seem out of place.  Car traffic is only allowed into the city after 4:00 pm, so plan to arrive late, or park outside the city and walk in, and move your car inside the old city to a secure parking area late in the day.  The hotel can shuttle your luggage if you must park outside the city walls.

Quotes-  "There are more beautiful places within the city walls, but the prices are double this one."  Steven Hurley, March 2002.
