Details- This is a real gem!  The hotel is located on the small medieval town square of Bacharach.  Although Bacharach is on the heavily traveled Rhine River, this town has gone almost unnoticed by the hordes of tourists.  The charming half timbered hotel is set among buildings from the 14th century, when Bacharach was the center of the areas wine distribution.  The fine on site restaurant is large with dark wood paneling and historical murals.  Seating for meals and drinks is also available outside on the square when the weather permits.  The small bar doubles as the hotel’s lobby.

Notes- Several of the rooms have lovely large balconies overlooking the square.  The best of these, though more expensive, are rooms number 22, 23, 32 and 33.  Very close to the hotel are several weinstube, where you can sample the areas large selection of white wines.

Quotes-

"The Hotel Altkolnischer Hof is a great old building with a gracious staff.  Our room was huge with a full balcony overlooking the street."  Rick F., (Tampa, FL) May 2006

"We absolutely loved the hotel and our room with a balcony. Having the balcony made a huge difference to me.  It expanded the room and allowed us to touch the activity outside."  Margie B., (Fair Oaks, CA) September 2004

“Excellent! The balcony was great!” Lynda D., (San Francisco, CA) June 2001

“This town and hotel will make you fall in love with Old World Germany.”  Steven Hurley, September 1999, June 2001, July 2003 and April 2006
