Details- We do not often include chain hotels in our reviews, but we felt that this hotel stood out because of the design approach that is in perfect sync with Berlin today. The Art'otel Berlin Mitte has a sense of place because the modern interior design reinforces the modern style of buildings popping up all over Berlin. The contemporary art (much by German artist Georg Baselitz) filling the halls and rooms exemplifies Berliners' forward looking attitude. The public spaces are beautiful, and the restaurant offers outdoor service in warm weather. One advantage to the size of this hotel is the large and varied breakfast buffet. The hotel is located on a 1960's East German rebuilt street that has little charm, but is not a far walk to several good restaurants and the old style Nikolai Quarter. The U-Bahn (line U2) is located just outside the front door, so all of Berlin is only a short distance from your room.

Notes- There are 95 rooms offering modern lines, bright colors and large windows. There are 10 suites which have balconies and 4 suites that offer separate living and sleeping areas. All of the rooms are air conditioned, sound proofed and include mini bar. You can choose from a bath or shower, smoking or non, and, if you prefer, even the color palette (red, green, blue or aubergine) of your room. Some rooms have high speed modems available, so inquire in advance if this is important to you.
