Details-
The Askanischer Hof offers something that almost cannot be found in
Berlin, a small intimate hotel experience of the "good old
days". The small property is owned and operated by Eva Glinicke.
It has been a family run property since the 1930s and it's charm right out
of the Second World War has somehow
survived. The hotels is located on the famous
KuDamm shopping street across from upscale shops such as Cartier and
Channel. You enter what appears to be an apartment building and take
the elevator to the lobby on the second floor, filled with antiques, an aquarium,
chandeliers and knick knacks from days long past. This hotel
really
reminded me of the the house that Sally Bowels (Liza Minelli) occupied in the movie
"Cabaret".
Notes- The
8 double and 8 single rooms are all off the lobby or down nearby halls, and
continue the old Berlin furnishings theme. Each room has a
private bathroom with shower or bath tub. All of the rooms include a
minibar, safe, cable TV and phone. If you are a single traveler,
note that the beds are true single beds. If you are a family, there
is a suite that has separate living and sleeping rooms and can
accommodate more than 2 people.
