Details- This hotel is only a short walk from the main square and the castle garden, next to the Franciscan Church.  The cute exterior is reminiscent of Old World Germany.  You enter the main door and to your left is the hotel's restaurant which also serves as the breakfast room.  At the end of this hall is the reception window.  There is no elevator so you must take the steep and winding steps up one or two floors to your room.  The rooms offer a typical German bed with down comforters, armoires, TV, a fridge and a sitting area.  There are no telephones in the rooms, but a pay phone is available in a small closet/booth on each floor.  Some of the furniture is showing signs of wear and needs replacement.  The tiny bathrooms have showers.

Notes-   Rooms on the first floor offer more windows including five windows on room number 3.  Room 2 has four windows and a canopy bed.  The restaurant is decorated with Medieval weapons, puppets, steins and other kitchen utensils and serves typical Franconian cuisine.  It's open from 11-2 and from 6-10.  We recommend making reservations a few hours in advance.   In the summer food and drinks are available on an outside terrace.

For 2005 the hotel added new rooms in the building next door.  These rooms are a bit larger, more modern and non-smoking.  They have also expanded their restaurant and created a beautiful modern facility.  It is truly a hidden gem!

Quotes-

"The hotel was nice, the location was great, but the room was
small.  It worked for one night, but reminded us of a monks room."  Margie B., (Fair Oaks, CA) September 2004

“Overall this hotel's location, restaurant and prices make it a worthy option if you can look past the minor renovations that are needed"  Steven Hurley, December 2002
