Details- In 2004 Athens rushed to get ready for the Olympics.  Money poured in to remodel hotels to appeal to a coming international clientele.  The Hotel Central was itself a result of this frenzy.  From the moment we saw the hotel we were drawn to it.  It has a sense of class not often found in a 3 star property.  We were certain it would be out of the price range of the hotels we typically  review, but we were happily surprised.  While the street that it sits on is pretty unexciting, it is only a short walk to Syntagma Square, the Plaka District and the main pedestrian shopping street, Ermou.  In a city filled with ancient antiquities and many uninspiring buildings from the last century, the interior of the hotel is a lesson in all things modern.  From clean lines, to funky furnishings, glass walls to wood floors, skylights, to enclosed garden spaces... and add to all that an open roof top lounge with views of the Acropolis.

Notes- In all there are about 80 rooms in the hotel, but it does not feel so big since the rooms are spread out over 6 floors.  Rooms that face the front have tiny balconies (almost a large ledge rather than a balcony) and the rooms at the rear have views toward the Acropolis (of course the higher the better).  Either way, the modern touches of the public spaces carry over to the rooms.  The rooms are small efficiently planned spaces that include a desk and chair, closets, fridge and safe.  Some of the rooms have a day sofa which can be converted to a bed for a third person.   The bathrooms are modern and include brand new fixtures.

Quotes-  "The Central Hotel was very comfortable, and of course the rooftop patio was spectacular at night.  Sitting up there in the warm, soft night air, looking at the Acropolis was very memorable."  Jay and Linda T., Carmichael, CA June 2005

"We saw this hotel only days after it's grand opening and are looking forward to a return visit."  Steven Hurley, March 2004.

"Location and view were definitely 4 star and would cause me to recommend this hotel to my friends."  Laura W., Sacramento, CA June 2005
