Details- The Hermes Hotel is located on a quiet, nondescript street very close to the Plaka and Syntagama Square. As with many hotels in Athens, it was remodeled in 2004 for the Olympics. The result was a moderately priced 3 star hotel with a friendly staff and new furnishings. The overall feel of the hotel is efficiency in a modern environment. This hotel is related to two others in Athens that are in need of a remodel. If this one is full, we are not as keen to the sister properties.

Notes- The 50 rooms are spread over 5 floors. Typical of big cities in Europe, all the rooms are small, and in tight quarters it is nice to have the space be modern, simple and efficient. Wood floors and accents dominate the rooms while bright fabrics and white walls add a nice counterpoint. During our visit there was almost no wall art, making it hard to tell whether it was minimalist or just unfinished. The rooms do include amenities such as air conditioning, safe, mini bar and soundproofing. Tasteful light fixtures provided ambient lighting. Don't be fooled by claims of balconies, they are nothing more than a ledge. The bathrooms are quiet nice, again with touches of wood, white marble and glass walls or doors. Overall we thought the hotel was quit nice, and well worth the price.
