Details- This hotel is located right on the town square in San Gimignano.  The building, which dates back to the 14th Century, now has 49 guest rooms.  This size hotel is usually too large for us, but the layout of the building makes it feel more intimate.  The vaulted arched ceilings and stone walls of the lobby and lounge make for a very impressive entrance.  The rooms, though not large, are adequate and decorated in Venetian style.  All have cable TV and a safe.  It is important to note that while the rooms have air conditioning, there is an additional charge for its use.  Siena (30 minutes), the vineyards of Chianti (30 minutes), Florence (1 hour) and Assisi (2 hours) are easy day trips from here.

Notes-  The least expensive rooms do not have any view to speak of.  Higher priced rooms have views and some even have balconies.  If you are going to pay for a view room, ask for a countryside view at the back of the hotel.  It is spectacular and quieter than the town square view.   For families, there are two junior suites that have two bedrooms sharing one bath.

Quotes-

"If a balcony is a must for you, this hotel is your choice."  Steven Hurley, March  2003
